The "Panel on Social Earthquake Awareness in Turkey" was organized at the Haliç Application and Research Campus through the collaboration of Istanbul Rumeli University's Emergency Disaster Commission, the Department of Civil Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, and the Department of Aviation Management in the Faculty of Economics, Administrative, and Social Sciences.
The event, attended by the Chair of the Emergency Disaster Commission and Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Ayşe Yiğit Şakar, the Director of the Continuous Education Center Serap Daş, the Head of the Department of Civil Engineering Prof. Dr. İbrahim Yüksel, academics, and a large number of students, highlighted the aspects to be considered before, during, and after earthquakes.
The panel, moderated by Prof. Dr. İlhan Osmanşahin, began with opening speeches. Research Assistant Hilal Taşkın provided important insights into raising awareness among children about earthquakes through her presentation titled "Examination of Children's Disaster Books in the Context of Developing Community Disaster Awareness." Burak Çatlıoğlu, the President of the Istanbul Branch of the Chamber of Geophysical Engineers, delivered detailed information on "Geophysical Engineering Practices in Reducing Disaster Risks."
Following Prof. Dr. İlhan Osmanşahin's remarks on the early detection of earthquakes, the panelists addressed questions from the participants. The event concluded with the presentation of plaques to the speakers and an exchange of information among the participants. It was emphasized that such awareness-raising activities play a crucial role in increasing disaster awareness in society.
