With globalization, people have turned to science and technology to increase their welfare, strengthen the economy, and facilitate societal life in line with the economic, political, and social problems and needs occurring worldwide. In recent years, with the rapid acquisition, accessibility, storage, and utilization of knowledge, science and technology have become even more important. Nowadays, societies continue to develop thanks to scientific research, methods, and developments in technology resulting from scientific studies. Therefore, to create awareness for developing societies, various activities such as education, seminars, conferences, and events related to science and technology are organized. In our country, Science and Technology Week is celebrated from March 8th to March 14th to raise awareness of knowledge, science, scientific thinking, technology, and technological developments. Another purpose of celebrating Science and Technology Week is to increase the production capacity according to people's knowledge and skills, as part of efforts to create an information society in our country. Gazi Mustafa Kemal ATATÜRK, aiming for the Turkish nation to surpass the contemporary level of civilization, expressed the importance of science with the following words in 1922: "Yes; in the political and social life of our nation, as well as in the education of our nation's thoughts, our guide will be science and knowledge." In this regard, we at Istanbul Rumeli University continue our path with steps advancing in the fields of science and technology. In our curriculum, we provide courses suitable for innovative thinking for students in the Computer Technology Department and Computer Programming Program, enabling them to progress with science and technology. We have added courses such as Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security, and Mobile Programming, which are widely used and have led to significant developments in technology, to our curriculum.
At the same time, we believe that field trips conducted in institutions and organizations in the field of informatics will enable our students to have a broader perspective. Finally, it is important for people to know that developments will continue through science and technology, and that with education and training, they can contribute to any situation or phenomenon affecting human life. I wish Science and Technology Week to contribute to the further development of science and technology and to the widespread adoption of conscious technology use.
