Department of Occupational Health and Safety

Program Objective

The statistics regarding health and safety are not encouraging, not only in our country but also worldwide. With consideration of the accident and mortality rates expressed by the International Labour Organization, the appointment of "Occupational Health and Safety Specialists" to work towards establishing a culture of safety and health in businesses and eliminating all risks has been made mandatory through legal regulations. The aim of the program is to provide student education that meets the needs of industrial organizations and assumes the overall occupational safety responsibility of a company. The goal is to train "Occupational Health and Safety Specialists" who are knowledgeable, skilled, and sensitive to current events and developments in occupational health and safety, follow legal regulations, adhere to professional ethics, conduct risk analysis, and take necessary precautions to prevent risks.

Graduates of the Occupational Health and Safety Master's program, both with thesis and non-thesis options, are entitled to directly participate in the "Class B" specialization exams conducted by the Ministry of Labour and Social Security. (Subject to meeting the conditions and requirements specified by the Ministry of Labour and Social Security for undergraduate degree)

The aim is to provide our students with high-level courses and projects/theses in line with the country's needs and current issues, in order to develop expertise and deepen their specialized knowledge. In addition, another goal of the thesis program is to encourage participation in current research and prepare for doctoral programs.

Individuals who have completed the Occupational Health and Safety Master's program are eligible to participate in the Ministry of Labour and Social Security's Class B Specialization Exam. Graduates of the Occupational Safety Master's program, equipped with qualified knowledge, can meet the demand for trained personnel in this field in all sectors both domestically and internationally. Additionally, our graduates, with the knowledge and competencies gained through graduate education, contribute to society through university-public-industry collaborations, promote the production, preservation, and dissemination of knowledge, and advance their careers to a higher level.

Graduates of graduate programs can continue their professional and business lives at the graduate level, working as occupational safety specialists in both public and private sectors. They also have opportunities to work in universities, institutes, TÜBİTAK (Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey), and various R&D centers, thus pursuing an academic career, thanks to their attainment of graduate academic titles.
