Purpose Of The Program

In this competitive field there is a need for educated and qualified individuals working in aviation. The purpose of the Civil Air Transportation Management program is to educate students to become competent professionals who are able to perform a wide range of duties in the workforce. Individuals equipped with the required knowledge and skills of the field will meet the need for experts in the sector who can think analytically and also have the necessary management skills.
The program has an extensive curriculum which prepares its graduates for careers in aviation by establishing a solid base in the areas of management and aviation. The program aims to bring students together with airline companies and air cargo as well as ground services to integrate both theoretical courses with praxis (practical application). 

 

The program of Civil Air Transportation Management is a two year associate degree program. Graduates are awarded with the associate degree of “Civil Air Transportation Management” and the title of “Ground Service Technical Expert”. 
Some courses provided in the program are Business Management, Ground Services Management, Aviation Safety, Aviation Economy, Risk and Crisis Management in Aviation. 

Students of Civil Air Transportation Management at Istanbul Rumeli University are supported by certificate programs provided by the Continuing Education Center.

The language of instruction of the 2 year vocational Civil Air Transportation Management program is Turkish. However, in order for our students to gain a competitive edge in the field, we also provide an advanced level English language education.

For those who choose to work as a ground service technical expert, one requirement is having no criminal record which can prevent a graduate from obtaining an airport access card. Another requirement is having no health problems such as: hearing loss or impairment, colorblindness, loss of sight or impairment, etc. that can impede fulfillment of duties. To verify that potential students have no such health problems, a health report from a general hospital is required. 
Due to the fact that the aviation sector is a rapidly growing field, it requires individuals who can think fast and analytically, manage teams effectively and give priority to passenger satisfaction. Additionally, having efficient communication skills and a good working knowledge of aviation safety is a must.

Graduates of the program can work in airline companies, in administrative and operational departments of airports and ground services. Moreover, consultancy and educational institutions which provide service in the aviation sector, as well as, state institutions such as the Ministry of Transport and Maritime Affairs and Communications are also possible options.

Graduates can be employed in departments of aviation companies that do not require specific technical skills and licenses. Possible areas of employment for graduates are airline companies, air cargo companies, ground service companies, airports, catering companies, private air taxi transportation companies, administrative units at airplane maintenance establishments and airplane manufacturing companies.

Students who complete the program with success can transfer to undergraduate programs through the vertical transfer exam organized by the Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM).

A student enrolled in the program of Civil Air Transportation Management can transfer to another program within the same institution after 1 semester through the horizontal transfer system by consideration of their Cumulative Grade Point Average or their Central Placement Score.

It is possible to pursue a double major program within the same higher education institution. 
While studying Civil Air Transportation Management, it is possible to pursue a double major in the associate degree programs of “Civil Aviation and Cabin Services”, “Airplane Technologies” or “Sports Management”. 

All students enrolled in the Civil Air Transportation Management program complete their internships by registering to the internship module of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). The Directorate General of Civil Aviation is the sole national authority authorized to assign internship programs for students enrolled in this program.

Each year, Istanbul Rumeli University offers students the opportunity to participate in the exchange of students with universities abroad within the extent of exchange programs administrated by the International Relations Office of Rumeli University.
