About the Department

Istanbul Rumeli University Psychology Department with English Medium of Instruction has an equal-weighted (EA) scoring system. Our students graduate with a bachelor's degree and the title of Psychologist after completing a 4-year education. Students who pursue a master's degree in clinical psychology receive the title of Clinical Psychologist. Depending on their chosen field of specialization, they can obtain titles such as Clinical Psychologist, Social Psychologist, or Specialist Psychologist.

The Psychology Program, which provides education in English, will facilitate our students' integration with the world, giving them significant advantages in their academic and professional development in the coming years. Our students who have access to opportunities like Erasmus with our partner universities abroad will have established a solid foundation to continue their postgraduate education at respected universities abroad.

During their education, students are encouraged to approach psychology as a science, and undergraduate-level courses are offered in various areas such as clinical psychology, experimental psychology, developmental and learning psychology, social psychology, industrial and organizational psychology, and psychometrics. Students are trained as qualified psychologists who are up-to-date with the current literature and can actively engage in the international arena through the comprehensive curriculum taught entirely in English. Additionally, graduates of our Clinical Psychology and Psychology Master's Programs can prepare themselves as candidates for the Clinical Psychology doctoral program and contribute to academia as researchers who have been trained in the tradition of Istanbul Rumeli University.

Psychologists can work in state hospitals, private hospitals, kindergartens and preschools, special education centers, research companies, institutions affiliated with the Ministry of Family and Social Policies, nursing homes, industrial and industrial organizations, human resources departments, counseling and research centers, police departments, judicial institutions (family courts, prisons, and detention centers), as well as psychotechnical and counseling centers, research centers, and media companies. Depending on their areas of expertise and the content of their services, psychologists can also hold positions in managerial levels within the organizations they work for. Graduates with a degree in psychology can specialize in subfields such as clinical psychology, experimental psychology, industrial and organizational psychology, developmental psychology, and forensic psychology and work in relevant institutions. They can also continue their academic careers by completing postgraduate studies.

Our students who benefit from the Rumeli Education Method can take advantage of additional certificate programs that facilitate double major and minor programs, providing them with increased employability and preferences in their professional lives.

In our university's Preparatory class, the courses (modules) are designed based on the CEFR (Common European Framework), which is accepted by all European universities, with levels A1, A2, and B1. Accordingly, the B1 level is aimed to be achieved after a total of 32 weeks, excluding exams, within two stages. Students receive certificates according to their achieved level upon completion of the program. The strong general English education provided in the Preparatory class ensures that students have the necessary background to read and understand materials containing specific vocabulary and terminology in their respective fields through Career English courses. The program is scheduled for 26 hours per week in technologically compatible and equipped classrooms. Listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills are taught with proper grammar usage. The achievements in each module are measured and evaluated through one midterm and one final exam consisting of oral and written components. Additionally, written assignments, oral presentations, and quizzes support the program. Students who successfully complete the A1, A2, and B1 modules within two semesters can read, write, listen, and express themselves at the Intermediate level. They also receive specialized speaking skills courses after the Preparatory education.

Our students have the opportunity to pursue double major (DM) and minor programs, allowing them to receive interdisciplinary education and develop knowledge, skills, and competencies that can be documented with a second diploma and certificate.

The Psychology Department has DM protocols with all departments in the Faculty of Economics, Administrative, and Social Sciences, Faculty of Sports Sciences, and Faculty of Health Sciences. In addition, agreements have been made with the Child Development and Gastronomy and Culinary Arts departments. If a student wishes to pursue a DM with a department other than these, their suitability is evaluated through a consultation process.

In the minor program, students take a certain number of courses from another department that interests them outside their field of study. Students who successfully complete the courses are eligible to receive a minor certificate.

Istanbul Rumeli University Psychology (English) Department students are supported by certificate programs offered by the Continuous Education Center. These certificate programs are not limited to topics that can benefit all students, such as speed reading, but also include field-specific programs in collaboration with the Psychology Application and Research Center. Students who successfully complete certificate programs enter the professional work life equipped with the necessary skills required in the field upon graduation.
