The Istanbul Rumeli University Department of Political Science and Public Administration has an equal-weighted (EA) scoring system, and the language of instruction is Turkish. Our students graduate with a bachelor's degree and the title of Political Science and Public Administration Specialist after completing a 4-year education.
The Department of Political Science and Public Administration aims to graduate individuals who will be employed in the relevant units of the state, which form the central or local decision and policy processes. Graduates become involved in the globalized political and public organization at the national and local governance levels and become significant actors in administrative processes. In this context, students acquire a strong grasp of both the theories of political science and public administration and become key personnel in the field of state administration by actively participating in the practical processes.
Graduates of the Department of Political Science and Public Administration can work as civil service officers or specialists in all ministries. They can work as civil servants or specialists in various ministries, including undersecretariats, public institutions and organizations affiliated with the government, the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, among others. Additionally, they can work as managers or specialists in state undersecretariats, public institutions and organizations, municipalities, and provincial special administrations.
The Department of Political Science and Public Administration offers a wide range of curriculum content in both political science and public administration disciplines. In the field of Public Administration, courses such as Constitutional and Administrative Law, Law of Obligations and Commercial Law, Management and Organization, Local Governments, Urban Policy, Public Finance, and Turkish Tax System are taught. In the field of Political Science, courses such as History of Political Thought, Political Sociology, Turkish Political Life, Comparative Political Systems, Contemporary Political Movements, Democracy Theory, and Local Politics and Democracy are included. In addition, courses such as Sociology, Economics, Macroeconomics, Basic Law, Civil Law, Labor Law, Criminal Law, Social Structure of Turkey, General Accounting, Strategic Management, and Urban Economy enrich the interdisciplinary content of our department.
The language of instruction for the Political Science and Public Administration undergraduate program is Turkish. Mandatory English courses required by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) are delivered through distance education. Students whose English proficiency levels are at B1 according to CEFR can request to take Career English courses offered under the Istanbul Rumeli University Continuous Education Center. Optional Career English courses enable students to follow field-specific knowledge in an international language and explore job opportunities abroad. Career English courses open the way for students to pursue their interests in their field internationally and research job opportunities abroad. Our students in the Department of Political Science and Public Administration have the right to obtain a second bachelor's degree in two different fields by meeting the necessary requirements in accordance with the regulations of the double major program. Students who successfully complete the first two semesters and meet the necessary requirements can benefit from the opportunities provided by the double major and minor programs. Students registered in the Political Science and Public Administration undergraduate program have the opportunity to take some courses from a different department at our university, simultaneously and successfully complete them, and obtain a minor certificate in that field. With the double major and minor opportunities, our students can develop themselves during their education and document their competencies with a diploma or certificate. Each year, Istanbul Rumeli University offers students the opportunity to participate in the exchange of students with universities abroad within the extent of exchange programs administrated by the International Relations Office of Rumeli University. Our students must successfully complete an internship so that they become acquainted with work areas related to their departments. Upon completion of their internships students will have had the opportunity to apply their theoretical knowledge and skills to practical situations and applications. They can work as specialists and officers in all ministries, especially in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Turkish Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Justice as well as the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization. Students can also work as managers or specialists in other similar government agencies, local governments, state institutions and organizations, municipalities, international organizations, think-tanks, provincial special administrations, the private sectors such as consulting institutes, financial institutions, banks and the media. Moreover, graduates can also be administrative law judge in the administrative justice organs. It is also possible to pursue an academic career with the Political Science and Public Administration graduate degree. For our graduates who would like to pursue an academic career our university offers high quality graduate programs with or without thesis that will further add to our students’ education. The students of Istanbul Rumeli University Department of Political Science and Public Administration are supported by an optional certificate program specific to their department, offered by the Continuous Education Center. The certificates provided are updated according to legislative changes. Our students can benefit from additional certificate programs that can contribute to their professional development and employability. Through these certificate programs, students can complete their complementary studies related to their areas of interest and goals.
