About The Department

The International Relations department evaluates all the characteristics and historical backgrounds of the actors in the international system within the framework of mutual interaction. By making use of many branches of science such as history, economics, political science, law and philosophy, analysis is made about the foreign policy making processes, political and economic relations of states.
What is the purpose of the International Relations department?
The main aim of the International Relations department is to educate individuals who are experts in their fields, who can follow and interpret developments in the political, economic and social fields, and who can produce solutions according to the changes. To evaluate the political, historical, social and economic developments at the regional and global level among the basic knowledge, skills and competencies that the International Relations undergraduate program aims to provide to its students; explain the relations of states and international organizations with each other; recognizing international cooperation and international problem-solving mechanisms and methods. In this department, a teaching program that will provide the necessary information to work in diplomatic service institutions, international organizations, non-governmental organizations, multinational companies and international units of public institutions is offered. It is aimed to raise students as individuals who can understand, explain and interpret international relations, know at least one foreign language well, think analytically, and have a lifelong learning awareness.

 

The language of instruction for the Political Science and Public Administration undergraduate program is Turkish. Mandatory English courses required by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) are delivered through distance education. Students whose English proficiency levels are at B1 according to CEFR can request to take Career English courses offered under the Istanbul Rumeli University Continuous Education Center. Optional Career English courses enable students to follow field-specific knowledge in an international language and explore job opportunities abroad. Career English courses open the way for students to pursue their interests in their field internationally and research job opportunities abroad.

Our students in the Department of Political Science and Public Administration have the right to obtain a second bachelor's degree in two different fields by meeting the necessary requirements in accordance with the regulations of the double major program. Students who successfully complete the first two semesters and meet the necessary requirements can benefit from the opportunities provided by the double major and minor programs.

Students registered in the Political Science and Public Administration undergraduate program have the opportunity to take some courses from a different department at our university, simultaneously and successfully complete them, and obtain a minor certificate in that field. With the double major and minor opportunities, our students can develop themselves during their education and document their competencies with a diploma or certificate.

Each year, Istanbul Rumeli University offers students the opportunity to participate in the exchange of students with universities abroad within the extent of exchange programs administrated by the International Relations Office of Rumeli University.

Our students must successfully complete an internship so that they become acquainted with work areas related to their departments. Upon completion of their internships students will have had the opportunity to apply their theoretical knowledge and skills to practical situations and applications. As a result, students are better equipped when they enter the workforce.

Graduates can be employed as international relations specialists in the public sector, especially in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of European Union, the Ministry of Economics, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Defence, and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. Graduates are also employed in the private sector, research centers, multinational companies, advertising agencies, media, the finance sector and international organizations.

The students of Istanbul Rumeli University Department of Political Science and Public Administration are supported by an optional certificate program specific to their department, offered by the Continuous Education Center. The certificates provided are updated according to legislative changes. Our students can benefit from additional certificate programs that can contribute to their professional development and employability. Through these certificate programs, students can complete their complementary studies related to their areas of interest and goals. Students who successfully complete the certificate program enter the professional work life equipped with the necessary skills required in the field upon graduation.,
