Purpose of the Department

Interior Architecture discipline; It aims to design individual or collective use spaces with functional, sustainable and aesthetic solutions, taking into account the anatomical, ergonomic-psychological, economic, sociological, cultural structure and expectations of the user profile. Istanbul Rumeli University Department of Interior Architecture aims to train solution-oriented designers and interior architects who can make original and high aesthetic value creative designs, have gained the ability to offer comfortable lifestyles by following technological developments, have the equipment to take part in international platforms, and have a broad vision.

In addition to the disciplines of the field of specialization during the 4-year education period of the Department of Interior Architecture; It includes theoretical and applied programs that can be related to different and complementary disciplines. Technical Painting, Basic Art and Art History Education, Architectural Knowledge, Design and Architecture History, Furniture Design, Design Theory and Methods, Computer Aided Design and project courses in the interior architecture program; It is programmed as a process supported by sector-related projects, seminars, educational trips, interviews and practices.

Contrary to popular belief, the interior architecture profession has a wide range of activities. Many places that are frequently visited in daily social life such as houses, offices, schools, hospitals and shops visited during the day; In fact, it was created with the touch of an interior architect that people are not aware of. Adhering to different projects and different vision goals, interior architecture, which is one of the professional groups with the highest customer satisfaction, offers its services in many different sectors today. Undoubtedly, the reason why interior architecture, which is easily separated from other architectural professions, has this difference; artistic aesthetics and design. The aesthetic concern of interior architects, which greatly expands their fields of activity; Regardless of the sector it is in and the concept it has, it can be considered as the first factor that makes the project successful. When we think about how important the words design and aesthetics are for our social life, we can have a general idea about the fields of activity of interior architecture. For this reason, interior architects in today's world; interior design of living spaces such as houses, apartments, villas, offices and working areas; transportation units such as airports, switchboards or stations, shopping malls, stores and shops, banks, fair promotions that vary according to the concept, hotels; Interior architects achieve results with success in social areas such as hospitals, schools, and many more places that we cannot count. From a holiday village project to a villa within that holiday village; The interior design profession, which works with devotion and touches from the interior design of the villa to the design of the armchair in a room; For this reason, they are also called the designers of the future. Interior architects, who have an important place and position in working life; can work in different sectors according to their fields of expertise and working styles. This offers such a wide working network that many interior designers today; he can practice his profession as furniture production director, store sales consultant, project manager, office interior architect and field interior architect. For this reason, millions of people apply to an interior architecture office every day in order to optimize a space whose concept is determined by providing all the equipment that will make the project successful, from small tradesmen to large companies, and to achieve the harmony offered by artistic aesthetics.

As in almost every occupational group, there are many elements that determine the duties and responsibilities of the interior architecture profession. The first of these factors will be the sector in which the interior architect specializes and operates. An interior architect shapes his working life according to the field he / she receives and specializes in and belongs to a suitable professional group. The duties and responsibilities of interior designers working in different fields of work such as project office, wood/furniture production, construction company, public and government institutions may differ from other colleagues. However, the project in which the interior architect is employed is accepted as the second important factor determining the duties of interior designers during the work time. The sector in which the project is located, customer requests and conditions; It is one of the most important factors determining the area of responsibility of interior designers throughout the continuation of the project. The duties and responsibilities of interior architects throughout their professional life are as follows;
• To make the most appropriate plan and program for the project purpose, budget and goals.
• To stick to an order that maximizes the efficiency of space within the space.
• To create a design plan for infrastructure services such as electricity and lighting.
• In order to reach an ambiance that is most suitable for the targeted project; designing background plans such as wall coverings, floor coverings.
• Knowing the limits of the desired concept well, to prefer appropriate in-space furniture and decoration accessories.
• To take advantage of today's latest technology by moving all the plans designed and created in the previous stages to the computer environment. 
• Completing the project deficiencies and incorporating details such as the floor plan into the project.
• To determine the completion time of the project by taking into account all factors.
• To create a timeline so that the project completion time can be used permanently.
• In order for the timetable to be efficient, to ensure staff coordination by adhering to this time.
• After determining all variables and plans, calculate the final expense budget for the project.
• To make a request/suggestion in case of a deficiency or need during the continuation of the project.
• To be in contact with the owner of the space until the project is completed and not to interrupt communication with the customer even after the project is finished.
• To have a healthy and level-headed communication process with all the personnel involved in the project during the work period.
• To frequently follow the latest innovations and developments in interior architecture, which is one of the professions of the future.

Our students in the Department of Interior Architecture of the Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture have the right to receive a bachelor's degree in two different fields without extending the semester in the departments they may prefer in accordance with the relevant regulations such as Architecture and Psychology.
Our student, who is enrolled in the undergraduate program of the Department of Interior Architecture, can complete some courses from a different department in our university simultaneously and successfully and increase their knowledge in a different field with minor programs and receive a certificate. With double major and minor branch opportunities, our students can improve themselves during the semester they are studying and document their competence with diplomas and certificates.

Istanbul Rumeli University Department of Interior Architecture students are supported by certificate programs given to the departments by the Continuing Education Center. The certificates to be issued follow the legislative updates. Students who successfully complete the certificate programs transition to professional business life by having the equipment needed in the international arena at the graduation stage.

Due to the importance of applications in the technical field, our students have to successfully complete their internships. In these internships, they will be provided with the opportunity to get to know the business areas related to the departments they study, to learn the activities in the workplaces and to apply the knowledge and skills they have acquired through education and training by doing practical work. Students of the Department of Interior Architecture can do internship in Interior Architecture / Architecture offices, firms and construction sites.

The medium of instruction of the Department of Interior Architecture is Turkish. (Required by YÖK) General English courses are taught by distance education. Students whose General English level is B1 according to the CEFR can request Career English courses conducted under the I.R.U. Continuing Education Center. Career English courses pave the way for students to follow the knowledge of their field in international language and to explore job opportunities abroad.

The Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture ensures that students receive education in universities abroad within the quota every year within the scope of the exchange programs managed by Istanbul Rumeli University International Relations Office and accepts students from partner universities within the scope of the protocol.
