World Animal Day: Let’s Act Together to Leave a Livable World for Future Generations
World Animal Day, celebrated every year on October 4th, presents an important opportunity to raise awareness about animal rights and the protection of nature. As Istanbul Rumeli University, we carry the responsibility of respecting the right to life of all living beings and instilling this awareness in society. However, in the face of increasingly dire threats, strengthening this consciousness is more crucial than ever.
The ability of animals around the world to sustain their lives is becoming increasingly difficult, and sadly, many species are threatened with extinction. Currently, over 15,000 animals globally are facing the threat of extinction, and this number continues to rise each year. The reasons for the extinction of animals are not only environmental factors but also significant human-induced destruction. Therefore, it is vital for both individuals and companies to take responsibility for a sustainable future.
The history of World Animal Day dates back to 1925. This meaningful day was first celebrated on March 24, 1925, in Berlin with the participation of 5,000 animal lovers, and it has been celebrated on October 4 since 1929. Today, awareness of animal rights is being raised through large-scale events worldwide. Municipalities, associations, and various organizations organize educational programs, shelter opening projects, adoption events, conferences, seminars, and media activities to convey important messages to the public on this special day.
On World Animal Day, we once again remind everyone that defending the right to life of animals is our shared responsibility. The small steps we take today will play a significant role in leaving a livable world for future generations. Let’s respect the right to life of all living beings and continue to spread this awareness.
