September 19th Veterans Day Gratitude and Respect for Our Heroes

September 19th, Veterans Day, is a meaningful day when we honor our veterans, symbols of heroism and sacrifice for the Turkish nation. As Istanbul Rumeli University, we commemorate this special day with great gratitude and pride.

The significance of this day dates back to September 19, 1921, when the Grand National Assembly of Turkey awarded Mustafa Kemal Atatürk the rank of "Marshal" and the title of "Gazi." In remembrance of this important date, a law was enacted in 2002, officially declaring September 19 as "Veterans Day." This special day symbolizes the unity and solidarity of the Turkish nation and keeps alive the spirit of the War of Independence, reminding us of the heroism and sacrifices of our veterans.

Each year, ceremonies for Veterans Day are held on September 19 at various locations throughout Turkey, including Anıtkabir and the Atatürk Monument in Ulus. The ceremonies begin with wreath-laying and the National Anthem, followed by events featuring our veterans. These commemorative ceremonies are significant not only for strengthening our social bonds but also for reinforcing the spirit of solidarity.

Our veterans are heroes who carry the honor and pride of their struggle for the independence of the Turkish nation. Their sacrifices symbolize our national values and our responsibility to preserve and pass them on to future generations. On Veterans Day, Istanbul Rumeli University pays its respects and expresses gratitude to all our veterans, remembering with mercy and appreciation all our heroes, especially Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.
