"Self-Compassion Development" Seminar Held by Lect. Exp. Clin. Psych. İrem YAVUZ at Istanbul Rumeli University

Lecturer and Expert Clinical Psychologist İrem YAVUZ held a seminar titled "Self-Compassion Development" aimed at encouraging individuals to develop a more understanding, supportive, and patient attitude toward themselves. The seminar attracted significant interest from both students and academic staff.

The seminar emphasized that self-compassion is an important skill that supports individuals' mental well-being and enhances their quality of life. It was highlighted that while people are often kind and understanding toward others, they can be harshly critical toward themselves. The goal of self-compassion development is to help individuals communicate with themselves as they would with a friend and transform their inner criticism into a constructive evaluation process.

It was noted that intense self-criticism can increase stress levels, reduce motivation, and lead to a loss of self-confidence. Self-compassion, on the other hand, can mitigate these negative effects and help individuals cope with challenging situations more flexibly.

Emotional Resilience in the Face of Challenges

The seminar also highlighted that self-compassion increases emotional resilience when facing the inevitable failures and disappointments of life. It encourages individuals to learn from challenges and not see them as personal shortcomings. Self-compassion helps reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation, allowing individuals to view themselves as part of a universal human experience.

Self-Compassion in Light of Scientific Research

Research was shared showing that self-compassion reduces depression, anxiety, and stress levels while increasing happiness and life satisfaction. It was also emphasized that self-compassion not only improves an individual's relationship with themselves but also fosters a more understanding and compassionate approach toward others.

Embracing the Moment and Focusing on the Present

The seminar discussed how self-compassion helps individuals move away from past mistakes and future anxieties, allowing them to embrace the present and focus on living in the moment. This approach supports individuals in finding the necessary motivation to achieve their personal goals and leads to a more balanced life.

The meaningful seminar organized by Lecturer, Expert Clinical Psychologist İrem YAVUZ inspired participants to develop a kinder, more patient, and supportive attitude toward themselves.
