Students from the Design Department of the Vocational School at Istanbul Rumeli University, under the guidance of their instructors, have carried out an important social responsibility project. The project, held at Yanıkağıl Primary and Secondary School in Tekirdağ’s Kapaklı district, aims to raise awareness for LÖSEV (Leukemia Children Foundation). The colorful designs on the walls of the village school drew attention to leukemia, offering messages of hope and courage to the children.
As part of LÖSEV’s "Pearl Project," the school’s walls were adorned with vibrant designs. This special project highlighted support and solidarity with children suffering from leukemia through designs featuring the word “LÖSEV.” In this project, students led by lecturers Yiğit Er Yiğit, Reyhan Kesgin Üzen, and Merve Çevik Güngör contributed to social benefit while also enhancing their technical skills through design.
The students involved in the project Pelin Tunç, Dilara Gemici, Nazlıcan Şahin, Sema Kaya, Nur Kabil, Tuğçe Büyük, Furkan İlhan, and Hasan Çetkin worked collaboratively to bring this meaningful initiative to life. The young designers not only beautified the village school walls but also delivered a message of hope to children battling leukemia.
Project leader Yiğit Er Yiğit summarized the project’s purpose, saying, “Design is a powerful tool for expressing social emotions. This work our students did for LÖSEV allowed them to discover both their social responsibility awareness and the healing power of design.” Lecturer Reyhan Kesgin Üzen highlighted the project’s significance, stating, “Through this project, we wanted to give a message of hope to the villagers and children with leukemia.” Lecturer Merve Çevik Güngör shared her feelings about the project, saying, “Design is not only about aesthetics, but also an important part of raising social awareness. If our work for LÖSEV brings hope and happiness to children, that would be the greatest achievement.”
