A significant protocol has been signed between Istanbul Rumeli University and the Marmara Women's Closed Penal Institution, aiming to conduct joint efforts for the rehabilitation of female detainees, their children aged 0-6, and juveniles aged 12-18 involved in crime. This collaboration seeks to create impactful education and rehabilitation projects for the most vulnerable groups in society.
The protocol was signed by Istanbul Rumeli University Rector Prof. Dr. Mustafa Kara and Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor Deputy Dr. Necip Sarı, with delegations from both institutions present at the signing ceremony.
Under this protocol, activities will be organized through the Child Development Program of the university's Health Services Vocational School to support the social and emotional development of these children. Additionally, the Pastry and Bakery Department will contribute to projects aimed at enhancing the vocational skills of female detainees.
Prof. Dr. Mustafa Kara stated regarding the protocol: “Supporting disadvantaged groups in society is an essential part of our social responsibility. With this protocol, we are taking an important step toward reintegrating female detainees and their children into society. As a university, we will continue to transform our academic knowledge into societal benefit.”
Lecturer Elif Türel, Head of the Child Care and Youth Services Department, expressed her satisfaction: “As the Child Development Program, we are pleased to participate in projects that support the development of at-risk children and the children of incarcerated mothers. Supporting social-emotional development and guiding them is our duty.”
Istanbul Rumeli University aims to contribute to society through such social responsibility projects while also providing university students with practical field experience. The activities planned under this project will significantly benefit children’s development while focusing on the reintegration of women into society.
