The "Towards the Sun" program, organized by the Global Policies Research and Implementation Center (RUPAM) at Istanbul Rumeli University, hosted Ergün Sözen, who played the unforgettable character Boncuk in the beloved Turkish film classic "Hababam Sınıfı." Sözen shared his memories of the golden age of Turkish cinema and his experiences on the set of "Hababam Sınıfı" with the audience.
During this special program, the series' blend of humor and emotion, the friendships among the cast, and developments in the film industry were discussed. Ergün Sözen enriched the program with unforgettable memories and amusing behind-the-scenes stories.
RUPAM Director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Süleyman Özmen stated, "With events like this, we aim to inspire our students and participants and contribute to their personal and professional development. We believe that the experiences Ergün Sözen has gained throughout his life will serve as a valuable guide for everyone."
Özgenur Çaputlu, the program's moderator, emphasized that Yeşilçam cinema still has a positive impact on the masses.
Sabiha Sena Merdamert, a student in the International Relations Department of the Faculty of Economic and Administrative Sciences at Istanbul Rumeli University, asked about the magic of "Hababam Sınıfı," which appeals to six generations. Sözen replied, "We achieved this miracle with mutual respect, love, and everyone's contributions through dedication and hard work."
Yiğit Er Yiğit, the program coordinator, added, "The 'Towards the Sun' program, which we started in May at the request and encouragement of young people, aims to provide content that inspires individuals from all segments of society. Having Mr. Sözen, who is recognized worldwide for his contributions to our country and serves as an inspiration by breaking new ground, is an important step towards this goal."
At the end of the program, Istanbul Rumeli University Rector Prof. Dr. Mustafa Kara stated, "Works like 'Hababam Sınıfı,' which have made a significant impact on society, show that they hold a permanent place in our collective memory, reflecting not only the history of our cinema but also a part of our cultural heritage. Sözen's approach to art provides a mirror for our youth, encouraging them to express themselves. Valuable artists like him guide us in raising cultural awareness in society and promoting art as a supportive force in education."
At the conclusion of the program, Ergün Sözen and famous tango dancer Bahar Özmert performed an unforgettable tango show together.
